At Speed Mechanics, we’re excited to celebrate our partnership with Peninsula Track & Field Club, now entering its second year. This collaboration brings together our shared vision of nurturing athletic talent, creating opportunities, and helping athletes of all ages reach their full potential.

Victoria’s Top Junior Development Program
Peninsula Track & Field Club is home to the best Junior Development (JD) program in Victoria, and for good reason. They excel at introducing kids to the sport of track and field, keeping them engaged, and helping them develop a love for competition.
Through their extensive volunteer coaching staff, Peninsula provides young athletes with a fun and supportive environment, guiding them through various events—sprinting, jumping, throwing, and distance running—while balancing school and club commitments. The Spring and Summer seasons are packed with opportunities for kids to try everything track has to offer.
This JD program lays the perfect foundation for young athletes, offering exposure to a range of skills while keeping them engaged in the sport they love. For many, it’s where their athletic journey begins.

From JD to High Performance: The Next Step in Athletic Development
While Peninsula excels at introducing young athletes to track and field, our role at Speed Mechanics is to take these developing athletes to the next level in the long-term athlete development pathway.
This season, we’re proud to lead Peninsula’s new High Performance (HP) group for sprinters, jumpers, and throwers. Our HP program bridges the gap between the JD experience and advanced competition, providing speed-power athletes with a clear pathway to elevate their performance.
When and Where We Train:
- Fall/Winter: Tuesdays and Thursdays (5:30-7:30 PM) & Saturdays (10:00 AM – 12:00 PM) at UVic.
- Spring/Summer: Practices shift to Peninsula’s home track at Parklands High School.
This program is designed to refine athletes’ focus, help them identify their best events, and create opportunities for them to compete at higher levels. With tailored practices and strength training in our Accelerator Program, athletes develop as well-rounded competitors with the physical and technical skills to excel in any arena.

What Makes the HP Group Special?
- Specialized Training: Practices are tailored to specific events, allowing athletes to focus their efforts and excel in their strongest disciplines.
- Integrated Strength Development: Our collaboration with the Accelerator Program ensures athletes are building the speed, power, and durability needed for top performance.
- High-Level Competition: From the 2024/2025 indoor season to summer meets in the Pacific Northwest, our race schedule is designed to expose athletes to strong competition. Warm-weather training camps are on the horizon, too!
- Pathway to the Next Level: Whether it’s varsity athletics, national championships, or beyond, our HP program is a springboard to future success.

Why Now? Track & Field is Growing
Track and field is booming, and opportunities for athletes have never been greater. Thanks to platforms like Netflix’s Sprint and expanded NCAA scholarship programs, there’s increased visibility and support for track athletes.
- NCAA Division I schools now offer 45 scholarships per gender, a significant increase from the previous 12.6.
- New rules are opening the door for larger rosters and more scholarship opportunities, making track and field a viable pathway for talented athletes.
If you’re fast, explosive, and excel in jumping or throwing—and want to see how far those skills can take you—track and field could be your sport.
The Perfect Partnership for Long-Term Athlete Development
This collaboration between Peninsula Track & Field Club and Speed Mechanics showcases how two programs can complement each other for the benefit of athletes. Peninsula’s JD program creates the foundation, fostering a love of track and field while developing key skills across events. From there, Speed Mechanics’ HP program provides the structure and focus needed to help athletes transition to high performance and achieve their goals.
