COVID-19 Safety Measures & Protocols
Listed below is information and protocols Speed Mechanics has in place to ensure the safety and compliance of all staff and athletes at our facility during the pandemic. We take the safety of everybody at Speed Mechanics very seriously, so this page will be updated as the situation changes.
It is important that we follow this strictly. There are daily cleaning protocols in place. Protocols exist for pre-opening, closing and after all training sessions. We focus on cleaning the high-contact touch points after every session and spray down our equipment with our electro-static sprayer daily to ensure everything is sanitized frequently.
Everyone must be screened before entering—athletes and coaches. The screen is posted on the door and must be read before entering. By entering, you are saying “No” to all of the questions below, are assumed to be feeling well, and are assumed to have not travelled recently.
Everyone is asked the following:
- Is anyone in your family currently sick or become sick in the last two weeks?
- Have you or anyone in your family been traveling outside the province in the last two weeks?
- How are you feeling today?
- Are you experiencing any fever, dry cough, tiredness, aches and pains, sore throat, diarrhea, conjunctivitis, headache, loss of taste or smell, a rash on skin, or discolouration of fingers or toes?
Upon entry, everyone must sanitize their hands and quickly move through the common areas and into open space (available in front of white boards, turf area, and or weight area). Hand sanitizer stations are situated throughout the facility in high traffic areas. Any time a piece of equipment is used, the individual must wipe it down after usage is complete with a spray bottle and designated terry cloths.
Athletes and coaches must practice social distancing within the facility. Masks are mandatory any time in the facility for all attendees and staff. Exceptions are for athletes who are doing low-intensity workouts (without other patrons sharing five square metres of space). When on the turf, yard markers can be used (2 yards = 6ft) to safely determine social distancing measures.
Capacity has been determined in conjunction with fire/safety standards. Speed Mechanics has the physical spacing to house 92 people (based on WorksafeBC’s five-square metre recommendation), the hard limit for Covid-19 in-house capacity remains at 50 attendees.
Everyone must register online beforehand. No drop-ins and parents are not permitted to hang around. Spectating is an option through our main doors from the outside or through conference room windows. This online registration also acts as our contact tracing for anyone entering the facility.
Positive COVID Case
If someone calls in and informs us of a positive case or if we find out in any manner, a positive case was in the facility within the last 2 weeks we will be shut down immediately. We will determine who visited the facility on that (those) day(s). It is then our job to notify all staff members immediately (email correspondence through GymMaster database to facilitate expediency). Contact tracing will be used to leverage sign-ins (fob-based) through GymMaster as well. We will work with VIHA closely to follow their specific procedures.
During the quarantine, it will be our responsibility to evaluate our protocols periodically and resetting procedures to reduce the occurrence of transmission.
During the quarantine, it will be our responsibility to evaluate our protocols and procedures to reduce the chance of this occurring again.
